the everyday bag

I’ve been using a Fjallraven backpack (which I still love) as my everyday bag for ages, but I’ve been searching for slightly dressier alternatives (because you know, I’m supposed to be an adult) — and it has been surprisingly hard to find one that is both chic and functional. I’m sharing with you two discoveries that I’ve been using a ton lately to carry my work and essentials. I hope you enjoy and find something useful!

The minimalist designs of Hieleven caught my eye whilst I was scrolling through Tictail. The affordable prices make it much more accessible than the sea of outrageously expensive handbags out there while maintaining good quality.

I wouldn’t recommend this bag for school (it probably won’t fit tons of textbooks), but it makes the perfect day-to-night companion. Professional and elegant for the workplace, yet sleek enough for dinner and drinks.

{2. building block weekday tote}

I actually discovered Building Block in a very cute boutique in Shanghai called The Backroom (if you ever find yourself in the area, go check them out!). I was immediately struck by their simple yet playful and quirky pieces. This is one of the bags I tried on, but because of the price I decided to sleep on it. A few months later, I still found myself thinking about it so I made the plunge — and I’m happy I did! With features like a zipper (you’d be surprised how many totes out there don’t!), long handles, and deep exterior pockets, this bag is a pleasure to use. The only con is that the bottom is not as structured as the sides, and I’ve had to add a thin cardboard lining so that it doesn’t droop from the weight of my stuff. Other than that, I’m as pleased as can be.

Building Block is now also available on Shopbop; unfortunately this bag isn’t available there, but there are some pretty adorable bucket bags and backpacks, so go take a peek if you fancy it!
