powder & velvet

Velvet has been everywhere this season from funky sneakers to slinky evening wear — and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s one of those fabrics that has a very distinct character; something you touch and remember. Soft, but dense. It conjures up images of medieval castles, dusty chandeliers, undiscovered jewelry boxes, and of course, cupcakes (sorry, I couldn’t resist). Designers have been constantly reinventing it, and velvet comes in all shapes and sizes today. What caught my eye recently is this blazer. In a beautiful powder blue shade, it catches the light beautifully and gives off a unique, subtle sheen. There is something very captivating about the balance of structure and softness in this piece.

If I had found matching velvet pants, I would’ve worn them in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I’m still searching (let me know if you’ve come across one!), but these black pants did just fine and made the outfit more wearable for everyday.
