sparkle & sheer

Sparkly embellishments and mesh fabrics are things I usually shy away from when wandering around a store. They’re hard to pull off, and buying a sequined cardigan over a trusty sweater can be hard to justify. This high-neck Topshop piece caught my sister’s eye, who recommended it to me. I hesitated a little — when am I ever going to wear this? — but the hand-embroidered stars were unlike anything I’d seen before, and made it hard to pass over. Anyway, what better time to wear a little festive sparkle (and be a little irrational) than the holidays?

The mesh + sparkle combination rides a fine line between costume and festive-chic. To keep the look cohesive (and let the top sparkle in all its starry glory with minimal interference), I decided to go for an all-black ensemble but still play with textures.

A peek of lace through the mesh adds subtle softness, while the leather wrap skirt and heeled boots complement the edginess of the top without adding more noise. I finished the look with a simple crossbody-bag-turned-clutch.

This outfit makes me feel festive, but also a little rebellious 😉
