“Want to go on a whirlwind one-day trip to NYC and see Keira Knightley star in her first Broadway play?”

How could one say no? My sister and I started planning for this trip a month ago, and the plans grew increasingly ambitious. In the span of a day and a half, we met up with our father, strolled through the MoMA Picasso sculpture exhibit, watched Thérèse Raquin at the opulent Roundabout Theatre, and devoured as much Shanghainese food as possible (think soup dumplings galore) — truly a whirlwind of a trip, but I’m so glad we made the trek. The brief breath of NYC air was much needed.

An NYC getaway called for a special dress. The statement print and vintage glam of this midi jacquard dress caught my eye. The metallic floral print is bold but not overbearing, and the simple Bardot neckline adds an elegant touch. Putting it on makes me feel feminine and powerful.

It was quite chilly and rainy, so I opted for warm tights and boots instead of heels, and threw on my usual black coat. This dress is suitable for special occasions in cold weather, as the weight of the material not only hangs beautifully but also provides warmth.

We went to see Thérèse Raquin at the Roundabout Theatre, a stunning venue built in the 1920s. Stepping inside the theatre whisks you away to a different era when men and women would dress up to the nines, opera glasses in hand for people-watching. No photography was allowed inside the theatre, but this snapshot of the entrance, with its ornate ceiling and glistening chandeliers, give a sense of the loveliness of the place.

The performance was extraordinary, leaving me in awe of how the actors and actresses are able to bring such gripping intensity and vigor to the stage every night for months on end. (Plus it was the strangest feeling to see Keira Knightley in the flesh!) Judith Light as Madam Raquin and Gabrielle Ebert as Camille were particularly outstanding.

Until next time, NYC! I’ll be back for another whirlwind getaway soon.

Hi Carly! Thank you so much 🙂 The play was a very dark and sordid story about human desire and regret… I definitely recommend it!
