The lace-up-flats wave hit the fashion world earlier this year, and I was swept off my feet. The original Aquazzura ones are gorgeous but are a whopping $675, so I started looking for alternatives. After a series of “lace-up flats” searches (and lots of wishlists), I discovered these at Topshop. They’re not cheap, but are much less pricey than their counterparts and are of great quality (the laces magically untie themselves sometimes while you’re walking but, eh, it’s worth it).
The shiny grey snake-skin pattern gives a playful touch to a quiet outfit, and a hint of glam without the pain of heels. These flats go perfectly with summer dresses and shorts, but also transition smoothly into fall. I wore them with a black jumpsuit, grey coat, and a simple black purse, topped with a pair of tortoise-shell sunnies. Perfect outfit for those not-so-cold-not-so-warm fall days!
These quirky tortoise-shell sunglasses were a surprising find from Madewell. They add a little bit of cheek to any outfit. I thought tortoise-shell and snake-skin wouldn’t get along well, but it ended up being an unexpectedly amicable relationship. Mixing the two gives a subtle twist to an overall understated look.
